Set up and use the Saleculator Waiter app

Applies to: Saleculator POS/PDA 4.5 update 4 (4.5.4), Webin 3.7 and Waiter 1.3.0, as relevant to this guide. Download the published packages from Saleculator Downloads.

The native Android waiter app takes table orders, sends kitchen slips directly to configured printers and hands bill requests to the cashier through Webin.

Before installing #

• An Android 7 or newer phone/tablet and the published Waiter APK.
• Webin 3.7 connected to the same Saleculator database as the cashier’s POS/PDA.
• A device activation key, a unique device name and an active staff account with a unique PIN.
• Network printers reachable from the phone, when printing is required.

Install and connect #

1. Download the Waiter APK from Downloads. Allow installation from the browser/download app if Android asks for that permission.
2. Open Waiter and activate this phone using the supplied activation key. Use its device ID when requesting activation.
3. Open the server/settings screen. Enter your Webin address, including the folder and port if needed, for example http://192.168.1.50/webin or the HTTPS address supplied by your administrator.
4. Give the phone a distinct name such as Floor 1 – Phone A. On the phone, do not use localhost to refer to the POS computer.
5. Run the connection/setup check, then sign in with your staff PIN.
6. Open Settings > Printers and layouts, configure this phone’s billing and kitchen destinations, refresh layouts and test each printer.

If Android cannot update an old debug APK because its signature differs, finish/recover pending orders first. The release-signed app may require removing that old build and configuring the new installation again. Uninstalling or clearing app storage can lose unbacked-up orders and settings.

Take and send an order #

1. Choose the floor and table. A table already owned by another phone or open at POS cannot be taken over by simply tapping it.
2. Browse categories or search for an item. Select its available variations, then review quantities and kitchen notes.
3. Open the order/cart review. Check the table and saved-draft status.
4. Tap Send to kitchen. Check each route’s result and the actual printer output.
5. When adding or changing sent items, send the resulting new/change/cancellation KOT before handing the bill to the cashier.
6. Tap Request Bill when the order is ready for cashier billing. The cashier reviews/imports the app order and completes payment in POS/PDA.

Print bill / order summary prints the current order summary. It does not mark the bill paid. A history status saying that the order was imported/completed at POS must not be treated as a payment confirmation.

Set staff permissions #

An administrator creates active users with unique PINs and assigns roles in Saleculator. Waiter actions can be controlled separately:

Existing POS permission aliases are also recognized. For example, restaurant sales access grants table/KOT access; sales.Total grants the waiter bill-request action; configuration access grants setup/recovery actions. Review the whole existing role before assuming that omitting a short permission key removes access. Sign in again after changing the role or PIN.

Switching staff, phones or restaurants #

Printer profiles belong to this app installation and restaurant server, not to the signed-in waiter. Changing staff does not change the phone’s printers. Give another phone its own setup. Changing to another Webin server requires the appropriate sign-in and server-specific data; confirm any outstanding work before switching.

Version note: this guide covers published Waiter 1.3.0. The local 1.4.0 UI preview uses labels such as Review order and Needs attention. It is not yet the public download; the cashier handoff and printing rules are the same.
